The Last Day of Preschool

How can it be? How can Aubrin already be done with her first year of preschool? It seems that we were just getting her ready for her first day and celebrating that she was going to go to school.

As I have said before, I love what I do, but being in the teaching profession often means that I can not be at some of my kids school functions. It is more than heart breaking to me, but Todd and I feel so lucky that we both have wonderful parents that can often play the part for us when we can’t be there.

Today Aubrin had her last day of school. Parents were invited in for the last hour for a small celebration with food, a slide show and a few songs. Aubrin was more than excited that grandma and grandpa Olenech were going to be at her celebration. I think it bothers me 100 times more than it does her.

Aubrin was the most excited about being able to celebrate her birthday at school. Mrs. Katie has all of the summer birthdays stand up, put on their crown and they sing. Picture 2105Picture 2106

She could not believe it was happening. When I got home it’s the first thing she told me about. Aubrin is going to miss going to school. She loves her teachers and she LOVES having that special time with Tessa.

Aubrin made many friends this year. She talks about her friends at  home all time. So now we can look forward to the fall when she sees her friends again in 4 year old preschool.  Picture 2099

Memorial Day Weekend

I love, love, love this weekend every year for many reasons. I get to spend an extra day home with my family, we always get together with family and friends and it means only a few weeks left of school…the end is in sight!

On Saturday my mom and dad had a BBQ at their house. Erin and her family were in town. It was nice to see all of my aunts and uncles and cousins. Jackson and Aubrin had a nice time visiting with everyone and playing in the backyard with their cousins. Picture 2057The kids played catch, soccer and played in a blow up pool. Although they mostly used the pool water rto fill up their water squirters. When no one was watching my dad went inside and put on his bathing suit and filled a bucket of water with cold hose water. He came up behind Jackson and poured it right over his hear. GAME ON! Jackson made it his mission to get Grandpa wet!Picture 2061Picture 2063

On Sunday we did things around the house. Todd had a golf outing, so the kids and I just played all day and ran a few errands that we needed to do, but mostly just played.

Monday morning we got up and headed to the Walled Lake parade. Our friends Tim and Jamie invited us to join them again this year at their business to watch the parade. It’s so nice because they have bathrooms and always have a few yummy treats.

Picture 2075

This year we were happy to bump into a few friends that we also watched the parade with.  It was so hot, but the kids enjoyed watching the parade and catching candy. Picture 2071Picture 2073Aubrin was a bit more brave this year and got a bit closer to the street, but backed herself up when there were loud noises. The kids were both a bit sad that Emma and Annie were not dancing in the parade as they have in the years past. It’s always fun to see someone you know in the parade.

After the parade we headed over to the Miller’s for a cool swim and an early dinner. Jackson had no fear and jumped right in off the diving board. Picture 2086

He is doing so much better with his swimming this year. Aubrin, our safety girl, was well equipped most of the afternoon in a lifejacket and a tube. Once she realized that Cassie was fine in just a tube, she shed a few layers herself.  We had a great time playing in the pool and catching up with everyone. Picture 2090

This weekend was so wonderful, it gives with butterflies thinking of summer vacation. The end is in sight…

Welcome, Warm Weather

Picture 2039

Jackson was in a parade last weekend with his baseball team. It was such a hot day, but the boys had a good time walking in the parade and throwing candy to everyone watching.

Picture 2034Picture 2041

Aubrin and I found a great place to sit and watch the parade in the shade with some of the other moms. Aubrin and her friend Regan caught a lot of candy and said it was just like Halloween. After the almost 2 mile walk, the boys had a game to play right after. We made it through and then went straight home to play outside and stay cool with  a few water toys. We love the warm weather, but it seems that it’s either 30 degrees out or 8o degrees out. We hope to find a happy medium soon!

For Easter Jackson got a water knee hockey game. We got it out and the kids had a ball. Although, I think Todd liked it best! Picture 2047Aubrin also had fun running through her sprinkler. I was so happy to see that she had no fear of getting he face wet this year and was running free and having fun!

Special Guests

Jackson has been so excited to have so many special people come and watch him play baseball.  Picture 1996

Grandma and Grandpa Olenech came to Jackson’s first game. Jack did great! He got the first two outs of the game playing first base. He was so excited to show grandma and grandpa how he plays coach pitch now.

Picture 2001After the game grandma and grandpa followed us home and had a very special present for Jackson (they say it’s an early birthday present). Jackson could not believe his eyes when he walked outside and saw his new four wheeler. Jackson has outgrown his gator and grandma and grandpa thought he needed a new ride. It goes pretty fast, 7mph, so a helmet is needed.

Picture 2004

When he drives Aubrin on it we take the speed down to 5mph. Jackson was so thankful for his new ride.

Jackson’s kindergarten teacher also came to see him and his buddies play a game. Jackson LOVES his teacher Ms. Stachura. Picture 2022 He was really surprised to see her. It was funny to watch his reaction and how he acted with her there. When it was his turn to bat he glanced over just to make sure she was watching. Then when he was running to first base he almost ran into another player because  he was watching Ms. Stachura the whole time. It was so wonderful of  her to take him out of her busy schedule to come and watch Jackson. He talked about it the whole way home.

Aunt Erin also came to a game. Jackson was thrilled that Erin was coming from Chicago to watch him play. Picture 2008For a week Jackson kept saying, “Is today the day Aunt Erin is coming to my game.”  Jackson played hard during the game and kept an eye on Erin to make sure she was watching his every move:)

Picture 1990Picture 1994

Jackson is   loving his his baseball team. He is doing well and learning new skills. One of his favorite positions to play is catcher. I’m wondering when we will brake the news to him that lefty's don’t become catchers. Oh well, when your five, anything goes:) He also enjoys playing first base and pitcher. In his last game he was the pitcher. The batter hit the ball and Jackson caught it. He was looking around for the ball not realizing that he caught it. Once he realized it was in his glove he was so excited. His buddies ran in from the outfield to give high five’s.  Picture 1989

Finally, the park is open

We love Central Park in downtown Milford. We have been waiting and waiting for it to reopen for the season. We went there today and finally it was time to play. The kids had a great time running around and playing on the structures and the swings. Aubrin was a bit more daring this year and went down attempted to go down the bigger slides. I think she will have it down by mid summer.

Picture 1979Picture 1980Picture 1962

We also did our favorite thing at the park and went on a nature walk through the paths in the back of the park. Jackson and Aubrin found some great rocks to add to their collections and Jackson was very busy picking flowers for me.

After the park we headed home to make gifts for Teacher Appreciation Week for their teachers. I always try to    involve the kids in the gift so this year we made homemade lemon sugar hand scrub. Picture 1984It was a messy gift to make which resulted in olive oil being splattered on the curtains, but in the end, the kids had great gifts for their teachers!
